Industry veteran Meilin Wong launches Ember42 to help SMEs make stronger PR and marketing decisions
The Malaysia-based advisory debuts with two retained clients across plant nutrition and real estate.
KUALA LUMPUR, 9 June 2026 — Meilin Wong, former Partner and CEO of Milk & Honey PR Singapore, has launched Ember42, a Malaysia-based reputation and growth advisory, to help leaders make stronger decisions about how PR and marketing build visibility, trust and commercial impact.
The advisory is built for businesses expanding in or into Malaysia or across Southeast Asia, where entering new markets or audience segments often exposes gaps like positioning, reputation, team structure, partner performance or commercial alignment.
At launch, Ember42 has already secured two retained mandates. The first will see the advisory support an established Malaysia-based plant nutrition company, whose business is critical to food security in the region, as it recalibrates its marketing function to meet its business goals. The second focuses on setting up and managing the PR function for an award-winning real estate company in Malaysia as it prepares to reach new audiences across the region.
Ember42 enters the market as businesses across SEA face increasing pressure to build visibility, credibility and demand across more complex markets. According to the Milken Institute’s Global Opportunity Index 2026, Malaysia has the strongest investment environment among the six Southeast Asian growth markets analysed, ranking 23rd globally, while Singapore ranks seventh globally and remains a key regional financial hub.
For Ember42, this makes Kuala Lumpur a strategic base: close to Malaysia’s ambitious SME and startup ecosystem, while giving clients access to deep first-hand experience of Singapore’s regional business environment, commercial expectations and communications standards.
Wong, Founder & Managing Director of Ember42, said: “Malaysia is a serious market with real regional ambition. Local businesses are looking beyond home, while international businesses are increasingly looking at Malaysia as a launchpad into Southeast Asia. However, expansion in either direction can expose challenges like inconsistent positioning and messaging, stretched teams, fragmented partners, or PR, marketing and sales pulling in slightly different directions.
Ember42 was created for that point when ambition needs sharper direction. Being based in Malaysia, with extensive experience from Singapore and across the region, is a key advantage for the leaders we work with. It means we can help them be better prepared for the changing local business realities as well as the expectations they face when expanding, attracting partners, entering new markets or competing across Southeast Asia.”
Unlike a traditional agency that typically responds to a campaign brief, Ember42 is engaged earlier in the process — before leaders commit to bigger budgets, new hires or external partners. The advisory helps businesses identify what needs to be strengthened, simplified, changed or stopped, so PR and marketing decisions are made with clearer commercial purpose.
Wong added: “Most people would not buy or renovate a house without checking what needs to be fixed, upgraded, changed or removed, This will help them determine how much budget to set aside before making the big decisions. Yet many businesses invest in PR and marketing without applying the same discipline, even though these functions can have significant impact on reputation, trust and growth.
That is the gap Ember42 is set up to address. We help leaders step back, understand what’s working, what’s in the way before deciding where their time, money and effort should go next.”
Wong brings three decades of experience across PR, strategic communications, marketing, GTM and commercial strategy in SEA and APAC. She has partnered with and advised more than 500 CEOs, founders and senior leaders, and has worked with MSMEs as well as global brands.
Most recently, she established and led an international B Corp-certified PR agency’s first office in Asia. Awarded a Fellowship by the Public Relations and Communications Association (PRCA), Wong currently serves on both the PRCA APAC Regional Board and Sustainability Committee, and was recognised as one of CMO Asia’s Most Influential Marketing Leaders in 2023.
